6/19/2023 0 Comments 1979 thunderbird heritageWhen GM downsized the intermediate cars it still kept touches like the hidden wipers and the proportions still favored that “long-hood-short-deck” personal luxury car look, where these Thunderbirds end up looking like they have too long of a trunk and that their wheels are too small. Though by the time these came out in late 79 as 1980 models there had been another fuel embargo, the economy was turning downward, prices were up, inflation etc etc, and now combine that with the fact that in spite of Ford trying, these still sort of look like a Fairmont playing Thunderbird dress-up. For those who show love for this generation, I hope this is a good candidate for your garage.įord must have been puzzled when these didn’t sell well since they probably seemed very “right” when they were being finalized around 1977, and when they saw how well the downsized Cutlass did in 1978, the probably thought this was a for sure hit and considering how well all the other downsized GM cars were received, downsizing the Thunderbird seemed like it was the right move. It is for sale at a Buy it Now price of $4,700 which seems a great price for a car in this condition. This is a very nice 1981 Ford Thunderbird Heritage. Also, in the picture below it appears the car has a plug for an engine block heater which is typically found in colder climates. I’m making an assumption here that it is originally a Canadian car and the odometer is showing kilometers. He mentions that the car has a little over 61,000 miles, but the odometer is reading “01173”. The car is currently in Canada, but the seller doesn’t mention if the original owner resided in Canada. Maybe our Canadian readers can help me out here before I assume too much. The car was judged second best in a Thunderbird show this past summer. Accessories such as air conditioning, power windows, power seats, and AM/FM radio are all working. The seller bought this car from the original owner in 2017 and changed the belts, hoses, and fluids plus did a brake job on the car when purchased. The standard engine in the Heritage was a 255 cubic inch V-8, but this one has the optional 302 cubic inch V-8. In 1994 the original owner had a stroke and the car was driven very little after that time. One reason may be little exposure to the sun due to the car being stored in underground parking from 1994 to 2017. The interior appears to be in excellent condition. Three options this Heritage does have are leather seats, flip-up sunroof, and two-tone paint. The Heritage is the top of the line Thunderbird with so much standard, there are few options left to check. This 1981 Ford Thunderbird Heritage is for sale here on eBay in Surrey, British Columbia. I very seriously contemplated trading my 1978 Thunderbird for a new 1982 Thunderbird, but I was about to be married in a couple of months and decided it was not the best choice at the time. I was a new owner of the previous more popular generation of Thunderbird (1977-1979), but I still liked these. Just like Rodney Dangerfield, the Fairmont based Thunderbirds of 1980-1982 didn’t get much respect.

Once you are comfortable with the definitions given above you should be able to describe an airfoil design in terms of thickness and camber. Highly cambered airfoils produce more lift than lesser cambered airfoils, and an airfoil that has no camber is symmetrical upper and lower surface. The camber line is a line drawn equidistant between the upper and lower surface at all points along the chord. Camber is generally introduced to an airfoil to increase its maximum lift coefficient, which in turn decreases the stall speed of the aircraft. The final design parameter we'll discuss is camber which is a measure of the asymmetry between the upper and lower surface. Defining the thickness in terms of a percentage allows an airfoil design to be independent of the chord such that a single airfoil profile (shape) can be specified for any wing of a given chord length. This means that the height at the thickest section is equal to 12% of the total chord. The airfoil plotted above has a thickness-to-chord ratio of 12%. The thickness of the airfoil is a very important design parameter and as always expressed as a percentage of the total chord. This is a convenient way to display an airfoil, as different chords can be normalized and compared directly to one another. In the example shown above, the chord has been normalized such that the leading edge is located at a chord location 0 and the trailing edge at 1. This often varies down the span of the wing as the wing tapers from the root to the tip. The length of the airfoil from leading to trailing edge is known as the airfoil chord. The airfoil upper and lower surfaces meet at the leading and trailing edges. This is easy to remember if you think of the front of the airfoil as leading its movement through the air. The front of the airfoil is named the leading edge and the rear the trailing edge. Before we do this we'll start by presenting a few fundamental definitions in order to understand how and why an airfoil is shaped as it is. We are now going to move from looking at the wing in planform and concentrate on the section profile of the airfoil that is used on the wing. We also discussed the aspect ratio and how a longer, thinner wing will reduce the total drag of the wing up to a particular speed whereafter transonic speed effects begin to dominate the total drag produced which necessitating a sweeping of the wing to combat the transonic drag rise. Now we'll move on and look more closely at the shape of the wing airfoil: why this differs from aircraft to aircraft, and how a careful airfoil selection will help to produce the flying characteristics you desire for your airplane.Īfter reading the post on wing area and aspect ratio, you should appreciate that there exists a very clear relationship between the size (weight) of the aircraft and the size of the wing (wing area) required to operate the aircraft as intended. Specifically we looked at wing area and aspect ratio. In a previous post we looked at the importance of the shape and plan-form of the wing, and how this has a great impact on the flying characteristics of the aircraft. This is part 5 in a series of fundamental aircraft design articles that aims to give you an introduction to aircraft design principles. 6/19/2023 0 Comments Ion rose quartzGemstone & Crystal Properties (Quick Study Home).Smithsonian Handbooks: Rocks & Minerals.High-temperature/high-pressure varieties of quartz are the result of elevated pressure and temperature and are usually found in meteorite craters because only the fall of an extraterrestrial body can generate such tremendous heat and pressure.īTW: Do you want to know more about rock and mineral identification? The books listed below are the best ones you can find on the internet (Amazon links): Optical varieties are divided based on the optical effect, whether it is the cat’s eye effect triggered by inclusions of other minerals of elongated (needle-like form), or the aventurine effect (inclusions of isometric minerals). These quartz varieties are mostly found in sedimentary rocks. No doubt, that formation environment is a clue of diversity in this group, too. Microcrystalline varieties of quartz are subdivided based on the grain size, by the character of bands or opacity. Because of the different temperatures and pressure during the quartz formation, different impurities can get into the quartz structure.ĭifferent colors of quartz varieties are explained by impurities of various elements (Ti, Fe, Mg, Mn, Al) and inclusions of other minerals. The main reason is the different formation environments. And the separate occasion is oil inclusions.ĭepending on the habitus of quartz crystal, scepter quartz and Herkimer’s style quartz (double-terminated quartz crystals) can be distinguished.Īnd here we need to mention structural varieties of quartz ( polymorphs), which form under high-pressure, high-temperature conditions (from 20-80 kbar, from 800 up to 1750 oC). Other minerals can be found in quartz crystals: elbaite, actinolite, and chlorite. The most widespread is utilized quartz, where a gold-colored needle-like crystal of rutile (titanium oxide) is included in transparent quartz. Also, we will mention included quartz varieties here. They are aventurine quartz, and various ‘eyes’ (tiger’s eye, hawk’s eye, cat’s eye). Optical varieties of quartz are the next. The second group is microcrystalline varieties of quartz known as jasper, carnelian, chalcedony, onyx, agate, chert, and flint. The first group of quartz crystals is composed of well-known rock crystals, amethyst, citrine, ametrine, milky quartz, smoky quartz, and morion. Quartz varieties can be divided into two main groups and let’s say some phenomena. And even can from masses of rocks ( sandstone) composed of quartz grains only. It is highly resistant to weathering ( 7 on the Mohs scale) and tends to concentrate on sandstones and other detrital rocks. You can find it in acid igneous, metamorphic, and sedimentary rocks. Quartz occurs in nearly all types of rocks and geological environments. If you are interested in checking out the most beautiful quartz you can find them by clicking here (Amazon links) or here (). This variety of quartz forms two ended crystals and resembles the diamond’s outline. The Quartz family even has its own ‘diamond’, which name is the Herkimer diamond. Quartz is even found in meteorite craters and some varieties can be formed after a meteorite fall. Quartz can occur as beautiful crystals and cryptocrystalline aggregates, where no crystals can be observed, but colorful layers form intriguing patterns. Sometimes quartz forms such unusual forms that can be mistaken even with diamonds. Structural varieties are tridymite, cristobalite, coesite, and stishovite. Microcrystalline quartz varieties are jasper, carnelian, chalcedony, onyx, agate, chert, and flint. Quartz varieties are rock crystal, milk quartz, amethyst, citrine, ametrine, smoky quartz, morion, tiger’s eye, hawk’s eye, and aventurine. We will guide you through all the varieties of quartz known today. Quartz is accompanying humans for several thousand years and during this period it gathered numerous amount of names, which usually change from country to country. The chemical formula of quartz is quite simple SiO 2, but the range of colors, form of occurrences, and the presence of optical effects are multiple. Leopold, Otto Siefert and Friedrich Blass and Carl Sintenis, all in German and by Holden, in English. The most generally accepted text is that of the minor edition of Carl Sintenis in the Bibliotheca Teubneriana (five volumes, Leipzig 1852–1855 reissued without much change in 1873–1875). Jacob Tonson printed several editions of the Lives in English in the late 17th century, beginning with a five-volume set printed in 1688, with subsequent editions printed in 1693, 1702, 1716, and 1727. Thomas North's 1579 English translation was an important source-material for Shakespeare. The chief manuscripts of the Lives date from the 10th and 11th centuries, and the first printed edition appeared in Rome in 1470. Third Volume of a 1727 edition of Plutarch's Lives, printed by Jacob Tonson The Lives was published by Plutarch late in his life after his return to Chaeronea and, if one may judge from the long lists of authorities given, it must have taken many years to compile. His interest was primarily ethical, although the Lives has significant historical value as well. He wished to prove that the more remote past of Greece could show its men of action and achievement as well as the nearer, and therefore more impressive, past of Rome. Īs he explains in the first paragraph of his Life of Alexander, Plutarch was not concerned with writing histories, but with exploring the influence of character, good or bad, on the lives and destinies of famous men. Of these, only the Lives of Galba and Otho survive. Parallel Lives was Plutarch's second set of biographical works, following the Lives of the Roman Emperors from Augustus to Vitellius. It is a work of considerable importance, not only as a source of information about the individuals described, but also about the times in which they lived. The surviving Parallel Lives ( Greek: Βίοι Παράλληλοι, Bíoi Parállēloi) comprises 23 pairs of biographies, each pair consisting of one Greek and one Roman of similar destiny, such as Alexander the Great and Julius Caesar, or Demosthenes and Cicero. Plutarch's Lives of the Noble Greeks and Romans, commonly called Parallel Lives or Plutarch's Lives, is a series of 48 biographies of famous men, arranged in pairs to illuminate their common moral virtues or failings, probably written at the beginning of the second century AD. 6/19/2023 0 Comments Credit karma accurateThe reason you see a discrepancy in reported balance is probably due to the dates reports are pulled as Discover only updates once a month and CW/CK updates weekly. The score provided on Discover site is also pulled from TransUnion but instead of using VantageScore algorithm, it uses FICO algorithm to generate your score. Neither CW or CK chooses what balances to report, they report what is pulled from your TransUnion and Equifax reports, mostly they're statement balances from all your CCs accounts.ģ. CreditWise pulls data from TransUnion and CK pulls from TansUnion and Equifax, that is why your CW score mirrors the TU score on CK.Ģ. Both CreditWise and CK uses VantageScore 3.0, are they accurate? Yes, but it's not FICO score and VantageScore are rarely used by lenders. Ok, you sound very confused about the fundamentals of how credit reporting work, I'll do my best to guide you on the right path but it may take a while.ġ. Karma's scores and advice is best ignored. Karma is very valuable for the reports it gives, however, since you can see new ones as often as every 7 days. The scores provided by Karma and CreditWise use the VantageScore model, which almost no lenders or CC issuers use to make approval decisions (most use FICO and the rest use their own "in-house" scoring system). (Very few CC issuers do that.) In that event, you would also see that card's balance changing if you used a FICO-based credit monitoring tool (like myFICO Ultimate, CreditWorks Premium, etc.) since (like Karma) they based the scores they provide solely on what is in the most recent report. So it will only show the balance on a card changing multiple times a month if that card is sending frequent updates to the bureaus. Karma does not, however, have direct access to your card's balance. (You are right that Karma pulls new data from EQ and TU as often as every 7 days.) If a particular card is updating the balance to those bureaus several times a month, then Credit Karma will show the latest update when it pulls fresh data from EQ and TU. Credit Karma pulls your Equifax and TransUnion reports. |
